Volunteer at Proud to Run 2022!

Select your preferred location for volunteering, You may be asked to move/help out at another station in addition or instead of what you request. We will try to keep people to their initial locations as much as we are able. Most jobs are on Race Day from 6:30am to approx 11:00am. Exceptions to this are noted in the descriptions.
Cheer and direct runners along the route! Course Marshals will be assigned to a specific course location where they will direct athletes to stay on course and provide encouragement. Volunteers will walk or bike to their location and remain there throughout the race. This job includes standing the entire shift (though you could bring a portable chair). Great opportunity for two or three to work together. Bring your noisemakers and your cheers!
Hydrate those runners! Water station volunteers are assigned to a particular water station and are responsible for setting up and filling cups, distributing water to runners while cheering them on, picking up discarded cups and cleaning up area after all participants have passed. A perfect choice for a large group.
Nourish those runners! Volunteers will organize and distribute bananas, granola bars, etc. at the food tent. Standing, bending, and lifting minimal weight required. Clean up the area after the race. This job is fast-paced after the race.
On your mark, get set, go! Volunteers will meet to help load supplies into the truck for delivery to the race site in the wee hours (4am/5am) of the morning. After we've loaded and unloaded the truck, we'll watch the sun rise over coffee and bagels as we prepare the area to welcome the runners and walkers.
Welcome runners and supporters! Circulate around the Athlete's Village, answering questions about the event. Ensure runners get from the Athlete's Village to the start line. Help generate enthusiasm before participants are even out of their cars or off their bikes! Assist with the passing out of food in the Athlete's Village after the race. A great job for 2-3 people or a small group.
Congratulate them on a great race! Organize bottled water and medals at the finish line and distribute these items to runners as they complete Proud to Run. Cheer like crazy! Keep an eye out for ailing runners and direct them to receive medical attention. Clean up area at the end of the race.
Volunteers will photograph and record all aspects of the PTR race from set up to tear down. Meet the grand marshal of the pride parade who usually assists with the distribution of medals after the race. Help us capture this amazing event on film. Photos and videos are posted on the PTR website.
Help keep Chicago beautiful! Volunteers will cleanup at the conclusion of the PTR event. Duties consist of picking up trash, tables and chairs, taking down banners and assisting with loading items into truck. Volunteers are needed to unload items at the PTR storage room offsite. This job is perfect for those who want to sleep in! Start time is 10:00 AM! Medium to Heavy lifting is required.
Packet Pickup
Get 'em ready! Prior to race day, volunteers will prepare and distribute race packets at selected locations. Standing, bending, and lifting minimal weight required. This job is fast-paced at peak pick-up times. Packet Pickup Date likely to be Friday June 24.

Supervises course marshals. You will be assigned a portion of the course to oversee. You will place and supervise the course marshals in your area. Having a bike onsite is a plus and will allow you to monitor your area efficiently. Serve as contact person for your portion of the course. Course managers receive a course map and are expected to do a "bike ride through" the course a week prior to race day with the PTR board.
Supervise all aspects of your assigned water station. Monitor the delivery of water to your station. Oversee the set-up of station, distribution of water and Gatorade and clean up of the area. Serve as the contact person for your water station. Previous experience as a water station volunteer is beneficial for this assignment.
Oversee the finish line catering to get athletes their post race snacks. Supervise volunteers in the organization and distribution of post-race treats and the clean up of the area at the end of the race. Serve as the contact person for Finish Line Catering.
Supervise the operation of the Athlete's Village. Oversee hospitality volunteers. Circulate the Athlete's Village on race morning checking in with all tents to see that everyone has what they need.
Supervise the smooth operation of the finish line including distribution of bottled water and medals. Monitor clean up of the area after the race.
